Summer Lane Primary School is a community school located in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It was opened in September 1999 after the successful amalgamation of St Matthew’s Infant and Keir Street Junior Schools.
The school admits 40 children into the reception class during the year. There are currently 325 children on roll, including 52 children who attend the nursery.
When it came to upgrading its telecoms system, Summer Lane Primary chose Russell Telecom, a company with three decadeʼs experience of meeting the telecommunications needs of the education sector, as its preferred supplier.
The school required a solution that was intuitive, easy to learn and included time saving applications. Features such as auto-attendant and voicemail were key requirements for the busy primary school.
“We are very pleased with our new all singing, all dancing telephone system at Summer Lane Primary School! Weʼve received very positive feed back from parents and callers and I would thoroughly recommend this product.”
Mrs Ann Youell, Business Manager, Summer Lane Primary
Russell Telecom undertook a comprehensive evaluation of the schoolʼs telecommunications system before deciding that the new NEC SL1100 solution would suit its requirements perfectly. Ideal for up to 70 extensions, this system is already proving very popular within the education sector.
The SL1100ʼs unique platform is the ideal solution for any small or medium organisation due to its powerful and intuitive features; comparatively low running costs and competitive price. The SL1100 makes any team more reachable, more responsive and more productive.
The system is ideally suited to the requirements of a busy primary school as calls can be routed more efficiently to whom the caller needs to speak to, no one is left hanging on the line, and messages can be left on the voicemail system to alert parents of school closures due to extreme weather, for example. The system was supplied with five handsets and these were installed in key areas of the school.
Russell Telecomʼs dedicated and highly skilled team of engineers is all CRB checked, and this was a huge positive as it enabled the installation work to start and complete without delay.
The system also has the in-built facility to record information for parents that can be accessed easily and flexibly by nominated members of staff. Key messages can include updated information on a wide variety of things such as inset days, school holidays, the out-of-school club and school trips. This information can be changed by the administration team on a daily or weekly basis or whenever required.
Summer Lane Primary School is delighted with its new telecoms system.
Ann Youell, Business Manager at the school, said:
“We are very pleased with our new all singing, all dancing telephone system at Summer Lane Primary
“The timing was ideal with the avalanche of snow that has fallen on Barnsley since Christmas and the facility to be able to change the answer machine message from the warmth of my home reduced the stress of trying to get into school to deal with hundreds of phone calls from parents wondering if the school was closed!”
Mrs Youell added:
“On a daily basis, the new system means that we do not hear the phone ringing in our office until the caller presses the office extension number, cutting down on the numerous interruptions that all school office staff have to deal with.
“We have received very positive feed back from parents and callers, and I would thoroughly recommend this product.”
